Anna Kavan (1901-1968)

An Unpleasant Reminder

This is a strange story and I don’t really know what to make of it other than it seems to be about a woman in the midst of a breakdown.  At just three pages long, it feels curtailed and the various elements disconnected, giving the reader little time to engage with the the ideas. It left me feeling  dissatisfied because I  could only grasp at its meaning.

An Unpleasant Reminder came to The Secret Self/2 – Short Stories by Women (1987).

Kavan was a novelist, journalist and artist and changed her name to Anna Kavan, adopting the name of a protagonist in her third novel, Alone with me.
