Virginia Woolf (1882-1941)

Lappin and Lapinova

Lappin and Lapinova, published in 1939 but written about 20 years earlier, is an account of the early stages of a marriage, written an ambiguous, fairy tale like style. As time passes, however, the fantasy fades and with it the pretence of a secret, invented world that had prevented the exposure of a marriage.

Sourced from The Secret Self/2 Short Stories by Women (1987), it can also be read on-line here
