Ruth Rendell (1930-2015)

The Convolvulus Clock

A convolvulus clock, admired in an exhibition becomes like the bind weed it features in its decoration.  An examination of how a small misdemeanour leads to far worse.  A moral tale and very enjoyable.

Taken from The Secret Self/2: Short Stories by Women, selected by Hermone Lee, 1987.
