Despite being set against a backdrop of Africa and big game hunting which, in the modern day, upsets and disgusts, this story still works well as a portrayal of a marriage of convenience where neither spouse has their heart in the whole affair.  Hemingway’s portrayal of men and women has been well documented so no need to say more other than this is why.
